This article deals with the image of German Jewish society as reflected in the Gestapo reports on public mood. This material shows that in the face of Nazi persecution German Jews did not withdraw in docile subordination On the contrary, it depicts a vanegated subculture whose dominant feature was adaptation to the Third Reich. The major factions, the CV, the RjF and the Zionists reinforced the self-image of German Jews infusing new hopes and inner strength for coping with the Nazi persecution. The reason the Gestapo agents highlighted this aspect lies in their preoccupation with manifestations of Jewish resistance to Nazi policy
