DOCUMENTATION: ‘JUDENSPEDITEUR’, A DEPORTATION TRAIN

In the second half of 1941, Nazi preparations for the implementation of the ‘Final Solution’ were in full swing. A decision at the highest level dictated that the mass deportation of the Jews of Germany must commence in October 1941, even before the various branches of the bureaucracy had completed their preparations. This forced the bureaucrats to develop their operational procedures on the job, as it were It is in this context that Police Captain Paul Salitter commanded the escort unit for a deportation train to the Riga vicinity Upon his return he wrote the detailed report reprinted here
